Bellingham Information
Welcome > Local Info > Bellingham Information ...

Location, Location, Location!
Bellingham, Washington, nestled in the northwest between Seattle and Vancouver B.C. is home to approximately 72,000 residents. With snow capped Mount Baker to the east and the gorgeous Puget Sound waters to the west, the view from any direction is breathtaking. Bellingham is the 10th largest city in Washington, but has a community feel boasting unique charm and comfortable living.

City Atmosphere
Bellingham is known for its artistic culture shown through the varied music scene, multiple art museums, and award winning architecture. Western Washington University, located in the heart of the city adds a youthful flare and even more flavor and diversity to the already colorful population. Bellingham is made for those who love the outdoors whether that means strolling along the pier and boutique shopping or extreme outdoor sports like hiking, mountain biking and sea kayaking. Bellingham can truly give its residents a taste of the northwest lifestyle with its casual and convenient atmosphere. Armed with an international airport, ferry system, and train station Bellingham makes it easy to connect to anywhere you might want to go.

Bellingham is among the Top Places to Live

Spring 2003: AARP The Magazine lists Bellingham second among 15 “Dream towns” for baby boomers looking to settle down. Citing the city’s “natural charm, affordable neighborhoods and recreational opportunities,” the May/June issue rated Bellingham second only to the Fort Collins/Loveland area of Colorado.

May 2003: Men’s Journal calls Bellingham one of the 50 Best Small Cities in which to Live.

September 2001: Outside Magazine calls Bellingham one of its 10 “Dream Towns,” noting its close access to shorelines, rivers, the San Juan Islands, Mt Baker and the Cascade Mountains.

Outdoor Activities are Abundant

May 2008: Prevention.com ranks Bellingham the 2nd Best Walking Town in Washington.

August 2006: Outside Magazine ranks Bellingham as the Best Paddling town in the USA for it's back-door access to kayaking through the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound, as well as it’s a launching pad to Canada’s Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island.

2006: Bellingham was awarded a Silver rating by League of American Cyclists. Only eight other cities nationwide received an equal or higher honor.

2005: Skiing Magazine ranked Mt. Baker Ski Area 18th on a list of nation-wide ski areas, and number one in the state of Washington, based on a survey of ski professionals.

September 2004: National Geographic Adventure Magazine names Bellingham in the top ten “Adventure Towns” in the nation.

November 2002: Golf Digest rated Bellingham the seventh best “golf city” in the nation. With 16 public golf courses, the Bellingham Mt Baker Region has more golf courses per capita than any other county in the Pacific Northwest.

June 1996: The American Hiking Society and the National Park Service designated Bellingham as a “Trail Town USA.” Bellingham is one of only 30 cities nationwide and the only city in Washington and Oregon, to be so honored.

Bellingham's a Healthy Place to Play, Laugh, and Live

Real Estate Tips
First Time Buyers >House Hunting Tips

If you are house-hunting, you may spend hours looking at homes only to have them all blend into one giant blur at the end of the day. Which house had that beautifully designed great room? Was it the same one with the small master bedroom? You can remember what is important about each of the many properties that you saw by using the little tricks developed by real estate agents to help them identify the thousands of properties they see.

Carry a notebook with you when you are house-hunting, and give each house its own page. At the top of the page, note the address and price. Write down the exterior construction, style and color, as well as the color of the living room carpet and walls and any other major feature that will jog your memory later. You can nickname the houses--"the cow mailbox house" or "organic garden house"--anything to help you retain a mental picture of the property. This will enable you to recap the day and give your real estate agent important feedback that can speed up your search for the perfect home!
